Frank Gehry

Frank Gehry came to speak at Pratt this past wednesday. he had some positive points about enjoying everything and pursuing one's own ideas.

Gehry's buildings are expressive, emotional and infinite, filled with countless perspectives angles, compositions, viewpoints and thoughts. i think he is an architect who has truly broadened the tradition of the field and utilized the countless abilities made possible through the use of the computer.

McDonald's Playland

McDonald's Australia has just introduced its largest TV commercial campaign to date. Titled "Playland," the spot builds on the company's famous tagline, "I'm lovin' it" and was created by DDB Sydney.

A 60-second version of the commercial first aired in the beginning of September. The 30-second version will be released Oct. 17.

The ad features Sydney residents discovering the largest McDonald's Playland ever constructed while en route to work. Upon their discovery, they begin to engage with the equipment, including a Hamburglar Swing, slides, Fillet-O-Fish bouncers and more.

"Playland is simply about unbridled fun. It gives real meaning to the tagline 'I'm lovin' it' and reminds us adults how wondrous the world can look to a child," said Adam Rose, creative director, DDB Sydney.

At the Outdoor Awards in Sydney on Sept. 9, Playland won a Gold award for Most Innovative Outdoor and a Silver award for the FMCG category.

Crowdsourcing and Disruption

CROWD SOURCING AND DISRUPTION

A panel discussion on the shifting economics of Design and Communication

6:30PM Wednesday March 10, 2010
Memorial Hall, Pratt Institute Brooklyn Campus
200 Willoughby Avenue, Brooklyn

Pratt's Undergraduate Communications Design department will host a panel discussion on the emergence of crowd sourcing models in the design and communication industries. Crowd sourcing is a new and often hard to define term that refers to using information technology to parcel work out to a large group. Crowd sourcing models have already completely changed the stock photography business and appear to be spreading to other sectors of the creative economy.

Our guest speakers will help the audience uncover what crowd sourcing is, what the implications are for designers and what an appropriate response might be for those working in affected industries.

Repaint Times Square

The NYC Department of Transportation has announced a design competition for the Times Square Urban Plaza, and $15,000 will be awarded to the selected artist.

hygiene color bleach ad

Hygiene Color Bleach
To show the product's efficacy, we created these ads and placed them around the moving walkways and general walkways. The stains were created using a visual illusion. Consumers can see the stains from a distance but when they come closer these stains will magically disappear. As they come closer, they can read the message. "Hygiene Color Bleach. Removes Stains Fast."'

The basic strategy of this ad is dependent upon the synergy between placement location and optical illusion. I think the 2 factors go hand in hand very successfully.

Fight the Power

For skateboarders, the Brooklyn Banks, beneath the Brooklyn Bridge, has been the marquee boarding spot since the 70s. The city has announced plans to paint the underside of the Brooklyn Bridge and wants to take over this communal skate area for equipment storage until at least 2014. We all know how that could end. But YOU can help!

Skate legend Steve Rodriguez (getting sick, above), of 5Boro Skateboards is fighting City Hall to preserve part of the park. To help keep the Brooklyn Banks, please spread the word, and send an email to brooklynbridgeoutreach@gmail.com.

And if anyone has creative ideas on other ways to spread the word, please let me know, and I will forward them to Steve. Thanks everyone!
