A cool site

Now this site some of you may now or may already be a member of. It is a site to look at because there are aspiring typographers, graphic designers etc who place their portfolio on here and leave it open for critiques as well. Besides all of that the work is actually better than average. Very interesting stuff that you can ask the artist about as well if you become a member and also make room for your work to be recognized.

REFRESHING....

A convex logo substitutes colorfully sprayed can.

Naked can help to reduce air and water pollution occurred in

its coloring process. It also reduces energy and effort to separate

toxic color paint from aluminum in recycling process. Huge amount of
energy and paint required to manufacture colored cans will be saved.

Instead of toxic paint, manufacturers process aluminum with
a pressing machine that indicates brand identity on surface.

AT&T Suing Verizon Because "Map" Ad Is Confusing to Dumb People (and Lawyers)

A Verizon Wireless ad shows a beefy Verizon 3G map next to a less impressive AT&T 3G map. AT&T is suing, saying it leads people to believe AT&T has no phone service outside of its (admittedly skimpy) 3G areas.

The Wild Things You find in nyc

To mark the coming out of the movie (that I am dying to see..), Where The Wild Things Are, there is an exhibit of original drawings from the beloved children's book by Maurice Sendak. This exhibit began on October 6th at The Morgan Library and Museum on Madison and 36th and will run until November 1st. Maybe make a day out of it and get the 10$ Pre-Fixe lunch of my favorite restaurants Ayza, located on 31st between Broadway and 5th. It has a beautiful interior and also known for their fine selection of chocolates if you have a sweet tooth as well.

My roommate, Noura Salem, is starting a fantastic publication on campus called SIFT Journal, which is about sustainability in design. The journal was initially for the architecture, interior and industrial design departments, but she has now opened submission of proposal ideas for the Journal to the COMD department as well. If you want to get involved and submit anything you would like to write about sustainability, please contact Noura siftjournal@gmail.com or look for the SIFT flyers on campus.

100,000 Paper Airplanes

100,000 paper airplanes were thrown from the rooftops of six 7-11 story buildings in Grand Rapids, Michigan creating the effect of a quarter-mile long rainbow. Along with the thousands of paper airplanes, thousands of musicians came together to play a beautiful melody. This event is part of the Art Prize competition and was done Sunday by Rob Bliss.

Scissor Sisters Music Video

So sadly, the second I wanted to put up here has embedding disabled on Youtube, probably because the Scissor Sisters don’t want to be more popular. So here’s the thing: click on this link and watch the video: Eyeball Rape

Ok, so the song's not really called Eyeball Rape but here's the thing I absolutely love about that video. If I was standing in a
ditch taht I'd just dug and somebody had a gun to my head telling me the only way out of death would be to describe
ANYTHING that's happening in that fucking Scissor Sisters music video, I would probably just pull the trigger myself.

Beatles Rock Band Intro

The new Beatles Rock Band video game was released a few weeks ago. MTV who are co-owns
the new game hired Passion Pictures a London based 2-D production company to create a cinematic intro for the game. Known for the Gorillaz music videos', Passion Pictures uses 2D drawn animation, computer animation, stop frame animation, mixed media, and live-action. Directed by Pete Candeland this intro for the video game is beautifully drawn and fantastic to watch in every sense of the word.

The BP3 Album Cover.

When I first saw the cover art for Jay-Z's Blueprint 3 last July, I like many other hip hop purists thought, "How could Jay break from the 10 album tradition of always appearing on the cover of his albums, by doing some conceptual artsy fartsy shit errr stuff?"

After seeing how the cover and subsequent album art was constructed, I'm now converted. Pure DOPENESS.

came across this today, found the motion graphics very appealing as well as the fact that a lot of information was able to be communicated with very minimal narration. the music choice was interesting, i guess it added a little bit of hope through the awareness of a quite devastating subject.

Color as Structure Show

"Color as Structure"

Timothy Callaghan, Don Kimes, Valerie Molnar, and Richard Roth
September 15 - October 17, 2009
Opening Reception: Tuesday September 15, 6-8pm

One of the exciting things about doing a project like this is the gift of being able to view work through one's own particular lens, in this case how color has ordered the work of a varied group of artists. Timothy Callaghan, Don Kimes, Valerie Molnar, and Richard Roth all share a concern for color as a way of structuring their work by either building or maintaining a framework, or through the creation of hierarchies or systems of organization. That they also share a concern for historical paradigms, visual culture and everyday life is also apparent, as is the lack of a shared point of view.

For Valerie Molnar and Don Kimes it is the actual construction and destruction of the physical manifestation of color-as-structure that the work is built upon. For Molnar, each color-infused thread, stitch by stitch, becomes a network of units producing a buoyant, cheerful formalism. For Don Kimes the color structure deals with recovery and reinvention, resurrection and recreation--- the image literally regenerated by nature and intention. One can clearly see the color codes referencing the ubiquity of visual culture in the 21st century in Richard Roth’s “object” paintings whose existence as a personal, ideal ‘collection’ is carefully controlled and maintained by the artist. And in Timothy Callaghan’s contemporary ‘plein air’ paintings which are built on a platform shaped by flattened color space and are descriptive of a daily life of leisure, consumption, and politics one can see these color structures and frameworks as a scaffold upon which the image is ultimately constructed.

Let's have a meeting

Please come a few minutes early, and be prepared with any/all work, questions, gripes, suggestions, yarn bombing, etc…

Knitta Please

Knitta began in August 2005, when the soon-to-be-Knittas were discussing their frustration over unfinished knitting projects: half-knitted sweaters and balls of yarn gathering dust. That afternoon, they knit their first door handle. Then it dawned on them… a tag crew of knitters, bombing the inner city with vibrant, stitched works of art, wrapped around everything from beer bottles on easy nights to public monuments and utility poles on more ambitious outings. With a mix of clandestine moves and gangsta rap — Knitta was born! Today, Knitta is a group of ladies of all ages, nationalities, and… gender.

T-Mobile's New Guerilla Commercial

T-Mobile unleashes guerilla dance routine at Liverpool Street
Saatchi & Saatchi's latest ad for T-Mobile will be on air less than 48 hours after being filmed this morning at London's Liverpool Street station, where 350 dancers performed routines as commuters passed through the concourse.
'Dance', created by Saatchi & Saatchi London, was produced using hidden TV cameras within the station, which captured the spontaneous reactions of commuters as they watched the dance troupe perform.
The three-minute guerrilla-style ad, which is part of T-Mobile's 'Life's for Sharing' campaign, is to premiere during an entire ad break in 'Celebrity Big Brother' on Channel 4 tomorrow night, less than 48 hours after filming began.
Lysa Hardy, head of brand and communications at T-Mobile, said: "'Dance' brings to life the fact that there are often unexpected, wonderful, exciting things that happen that you want to be able to share with your friends and family.
